Dear Fellow Industries members
We, DahejEco-Friendly Society, welcome you all to the DEFS Website.
With the infrastructure projects like Express Highway, Fright Corridor, Metro Rail, Bharuch-Dahej Railway, Sagarmala Project etc….. there is no doubt that Dahej is going to grow bigger as an industrial hub particularly in Chemicals/Petrochemicals. An Existence of the well-equipped DMC is the right step to ensure that this industrial growth is made possible without any major uncontrolled disaster. By and large, the common accidents in industries can be dealt with in resources, but disasters are major accidents, create huge loss to the industry, surrounding habitation and human lives in large and it needs a multi-discipline approach to deal the major accidents. While analyzing the major accidents happened in petrochemical and chemical industries reveals that most of the incidents have sudden onset and give very short notice or no time to prevent the occurrence. A well-formulated emergency plan and systematic approach becomes an integral part of loss prevention strategy during disaster.
Dahej Industrial Cluster has large industrial units dealing with many hazardous chemicals which, if not handled safely may lead to emergent situation “On site” as well “Offsite”. It is really a matter of pleasure that We, Disaster Management Centre is actively coordinating with industries and bringing awareness in the surrounding areas. Disaster Management Centre, Dahej, has been very active in bringing together the neighboring industries to extend all cooperation. Interdependence of these units at Dahej, has been demonstrated from time to time. We feel proud to be a Center of such an effective organization which is being efficiently run by the involved participation of all concerned.

Working With Objective
- The main aim of Dahej Eco Friendly Society is to co-ordinate various activities during a call of emergency situation.
- Another focusing aspect of DEFS is environment preservation.
- The society is providing training in various fields like safe work practices, Hazard identification, etc… to the Industries and villagers.
- D.E.F.S. Conducts public awareness programs, training on handling hazardous chemicals, mock-drills, first aid trainings through reputed personnel etc.
- Establish and manage effectively an offsite emergency plan in a well-coordinated manner by optimum use of resources available with member industrial units and other including members of the district crisis group.
- Undertake and support activities related to research in disaster management, the holding of the seminars/workshops/ conference, preparation and circulation of pamphlets, leaflets, posters and other literature on containment and combat of safety, fire and toxicity hazards.
- Improve and strengthen coordination and cooperation amongst the industrial units in the Dahej industrial area to promote safety consciousness and procedures required to be adopted to prevent fire hazards, accidents, chemical leaks and similar other mishaps.
- To create awareness for improvement in environment by providing education and training.
- Institute measures from time to time to prevent such accidents in the industrial units in Dahej industrial area.
- Spread awareness among the general public in the neighborhood of the industrial units in Dahej industrial area about the hazards involved and to impart training to the personnel of such industrial units and the general public on the steps to be taken in the event of such accidents.
- Establish and operate training facilities for the personnel of industrial units, including especially those in the Dahej industrial area who are members of the society. identified for accident / emergency management and to the general public in the neighborhood.
- To arrange meetings, talk show, discussions, seminar, conference etc. in order to create attentiveness for the purpose of maintenance, protection as well as beautification of environment.
- Co-ordinate the activities of hazard control mechanism available with member industrial units.
- In case of emergency, committee members are to be informed for taking necessary actions for protection and to help in developing proper and coordinated communication plan according to notes and instruction and to work for same.
- To establish full-fledge disaster / emergency response center which are managed by trained and competent person to mitigate any enforcing event so as to control the damage to environment.
